New Product Development Manager

Redhill (Hybrid)

£65,000 plus excellent benefits

Our client is a well established and growing business in the food manufacturing sector based in beautiful, modern offices on the outskirts of Redhill. They are now looking to appoint a Product Development Manager to work as part of their specialist team, producing a range of quality products to suit the needs of their clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management from concept development to first production of new products to meet the requirements of client briefs and associated project plans.
  • Working as part of the broader team including culinary specialists, sales and technical departments.
  • Develop, review and present to clients' innovative product and packaging concepts that meet the client brief, target price, associated cost of goods and gross margin requirements of the client and company.

  • Lead the transition of new products from approved concept, trial and testing stages through to full production, ensuring that the products maintain their culinary profile and integrity through the chosen manufacturer, to meet agreed project timelines and agreed costs.

  • Plan, manage and support factory trials at manufacturers and resolve any problems arising to ensure that the most efficient production processes are adopted. Coordinate any internal and external issues to highlight and mitigate risks to launches.

  • Work with manufacturers to establish relevant controls prior to the introduction of a new production processes and products, through setting production controls and QCPs, to ensure quality attributes are maintained throughout the development and manufacturing processes.

  • Input to the supplier approval process and manage the introduction of new manufacturers as they are appointed.

  • Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with our supplier partners, understanding their processes and capabilities and using these at every opportunity to improve our product development processes

Due to the global nature of the business and the location of its manufacturing partners, the position requires regular travel with periods of time staying away from home so the successful candidate must be happy to undertake this as part of their role.

Experience Required

  • Food science degree or equivalent, with experience in food manufacturing environments
  • Experience in playing a leading role in a product development team
  • An understanding of outsourced environments and contract manufacturing
  • Project management experience and success in meeting operational and financial targets
