About the Project:
The A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross project involves the construction of 12.5km (8 miles) of new dual carriageway between Chiverton Cross and Carland Cross roundabouts on the A30. This is the final section of the A30 between Redruth and Exeter requiring dualling. The majority of the existing single carriageway will be retained for local traffic.
Role Overview:
We are seeking Section Engineers to support delivery on this high-profile highways project. Reporting to the Section Manager, you will be responsible for planning, programming, and coordinating works associated with the main office compound and drainage sections. This may include aspects of setting out and reviewing technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, programme, and coordinate construction works, including drainage and compound setup
Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and site surveys
Set out works using GPS, EDM, and Total Station (drainage, earthworks, roadworks, fencing, etc.)
Prepare Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
Liaise with the site team on plant, labour, and material requirements
Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries
Complete quality assurance check sheets in line with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
Assist with or lead safety and workplace inspections
Raise and issue permits for site works
Conduct CAT & Genny surveys prior to excavation
Attend site meetings for programme, safety, and coordination updates
Produce accurate site sketches and documentation as needed
Communicate effectively with team members, subcontractors, the client, and the public
Work independently when required, while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Valid CSCS card relevant to the position
SSSTS or SMSTS certification
Minimum 5 years' experience in civil engineering
Strong understanding of health and safety procedures
Competency in setting out and site coordination
Desirable (Not Essential):
CAT & Genny trained
First Aid certified
Safety Critical Medical
Experience with AutoCAD
Own laptop preferred
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday (standard site hours)
Weekend work (Saturday/Sunday) may be required for road closures or specific tasks - advance notice will be given.
