- Work alongside families to support them in caring for their children, helping them identify needs and strengths, and developing SMART plans to improve their lives.
- Assess family situations to determine if statutory intervention is necessary to protect children from significant harm or health impairment.
- Collaborate with families, children, and professionals to create plans that reduce risks and improve outcomes, promoting children’s upbringing within their families where possible.
- Conduct child protection investigations when required, involving families in developing safety plans.
- Where children cannot remain in their families, work with colleagues to secure stable, long-term placements, ensuring their health, education, and development needs are met.
- Maintain detailed, up-to-date case records, assessments, and plans, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Take part in regular reflective supervision and training to continually improve your practice and outcomes for children and families.
- A professional qualification in Social Work (e.g. CQSW or DipSW) and registration with Social Work England (SWE).
- Experience working with children and families, ideally in a statutory setting.
- Strong knowledge of UK childcare law and statutory guidance, including Working Together 2018.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Confidence in using motivational interviewing techniques to engage families and promote positive change.
- Empathy, resilience, and a commitment to helping children and families achieve the best possible outcomes.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively with partners across social care, education, health, and other sectors.
- Flexibility to travel within the region and adapt to the needs of the role, including occasional evening or weekend work.
