Responsibilities:

As a Housing Standards Assistant, you will:

  • Conduct property surveys using the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Implement the organisation's approved policies and duties relating to housing standards
  • Provide proactive and reactive services to private tenants, utilising powers under the Housing Act 2004
  • Assist with the delivery of the Council's Mandatory and Additional HMO Licencing Scheme
  • Support the delivery of the Council's Landlord Accreditation Scheme
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Empty Property Strategy, including identifying and visiting empty properties, liaising with other agencies, and finding solutions to deal with empty properties
  • Provide guidance and advice to owners, landlords, and tenants on interpreting HHSRS surveys, schedules of work, and legislative requirements
  • Conduct investigations, interviews under caution, and site visits to ensure compliance with housing standards
  • Build effective partnerships with enforcement agencies and foster collaborative working relationships
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in the field of housing standards

Essential Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Knowledge of housing legislation and the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interpret survey reports and prepare statutory notices
  • Experience conducting property surveys and inspections
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Experience working in a local authority or similar environment
  • Knowledge of HMO Licencing
  • Familiarity with empty property management and strategies
  • Experience in delivering training or presentations

Technologies: Proficiency in MS Office programmes, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
