Are you an experienced professional in Youth Justice, ready to make a significant impact on a high-profile service? Our client is seeking a dedicated consultant to lead vital improvements to its Youth Justice Service ahead of an anticipated inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.

About the Role:

The Youth Justice Service (YJS), now managed under Children’s Services, is on a mission to enhance its operations and deliver exceptional service to children and families. Following a recent internal mock inspection, we have identified key areas for improvement. We need a dynamic consultant to work closely with the Assistant Director and Head of Service, driving a programme of change to meet inspection standards.

This consultancy role offers the opportunity to lead critical improvements, supporting the youth justice service in achieving excellence, as well as full integration into Children’s Services. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring that the service not only meets statutory requirements but also delivers high-quality outcomes for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Youth Justice Board to ensure statutory compliance and governance excellence.
  • Enhance staff development through targeted training, policy reviews, and improved access to performance data.
  • Integrate the Youth Justice Service fully with Children’s Services, developing joint assessment and planning strategies.
  • Partner with agencies to review service agreements, optimising resources and service delivery.
  • Overhaul the reparation programme and expand restorative justice opportunities for young people.
  • Improve case management processes, ensuring assessments, interventions, and management oversight are top tier.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A professional with proven experience managing Youth Justice Services
  • A deep understanding of HMIP inspection frameworks, particularly with the 2025 inspection standards in mind
  • Expertise in driving service improvements, ideally within the public sector
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple levels, including strategic partnerships and service users
  • A results-driven approach to achieving key deliverables within tight deadlines

Contract Details:

  • Fixed term: Six months, starting immediately and completing by March 2025
  • Location: Chatham (with potential for hybrid working arrangements)
