Assistant Practice Accountant / Bookkeeper

Location: Romford, Essex, RM5 3SS.
Salary: £28-£32k depending on experience and qualifications.
Contract: Full time, permanent.

They specialise in providing accountancy services, Tax returns, Payroll, Bookkeeping, Tax savings and Tax advice to small businesses. They have over 80,000 clients including Sole Traders, Partnerships, Limited Companies and Personal Taxpayers.

They are seeking an Assistant Practice Accountant/Bookkeeper to join their TaxAssist Accounting Team.

The key duties and responsibilities are:

•  Liaising with clients face to face, via phone and email
•  Bookkeeping
•  Bank reconciliations
•  Preparation and submission of VAT returns
•  Preparation of sole trade, Partnership and Rental accounts
•  Preparation and submission of personal tax computations and returns
•  Completing relevant registrations with HMRC
•  Chasing clients when work is due to ensure deadlines are met
•  Reviewing records and proactively following up on missing information
•  Liaising with HMRC
•  Ad hoc work as required to facilitate operations when required
•  Understanding of payroll software and be able to fill in to cover periods of sickness or annual leave

What we need from you:

•  Must be an experienced Bookkeeper with good Double entry Bookkeeping knowledge.
•  PAYE/CIS knowledge & experience
•  Experienced in completing and filing Quarterly Vat Returns for a number of our clients
•  Experienced in completing and filing annual Self-Assessment Tax Returns for a number of our clients

Software experience:

•  Experience in Using Quickbooks online Bookkeeping software
•  Experience using XERO Accounting software, if possible
•  Working knowledge of TaxCalc Accounting software
•  Brightpay payroll experience or similar payroll software

Qualifications & Experience

•  AAT qualified (Level 3 minimum)
•  If fully AAT qualified, studying for either ACCA or CTA (Chartered Tax Advisor exams)
•  At least 2-3 years Practice experience
