Youth Worker (Primary School Setting)

Location: Mainstream Primary School, Romford
Contract Type: Full-Time (ASAP - July 2025, with potential for permanency from September 2025)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Worker to join our friendly and dynamic team at a mainstream primary school in Romford. This role is pivotal in supporting children across EYFS to Key Stage 2, enabling them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

As a Youth Worker, you will provide 1:1 support, small group interventions, and whole-class assistance to meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on children's lives, working collaboratively with colleagues to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Support: Provide tailored 1:1 support for pupils with specific needs to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Group Interventions: Deliver targeted group work to support social skills, emotional regulation, and academic progress.
  • Whole-Class Support: Work collaboratively with teachers to assist in delivering lessons and ensuring all pupils are engaged and supported.
  • Behavioural Support: Use proactive strategies to manage behaviour positively, helping children develop self-regulation skills.
  • SEN Support: Work closely with the school's SENCO to implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for pupils with additional needs.
  • Holistic Development: Foster a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment where children feel valued and encouraged to succeed.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience working with children, particularly in a school setting or similar environment.
  • Experience supporting children with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, and SEMH.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to meeting the diverse needs of children.

Desirable Criteria:

  • CACHE Level 3 qualification (or equivalent in childcare, education, or youth work).
  • Training or experience in delivering interventions such as emotional literacy or behaviour management strategies.
  • An understanding of the primary curriculum across EYFS to Key Stage 2.
