The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an Integrated Product Support Engineer to join their team based in Romsey. In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your supportability experience and determination to influence and advise various business functions, including engineering, project management, bid teams, services and portfolio management, and sales. You will be responsible for promoting and implementing IPS (Integrated Product Support) activities, as well as identifying and managing IPS risks.

Primary activities include:

  • Carrying out new and in-service product and system supportability analysis.
  • Providing high levels of confidence in our capability to meet the internal and external customer ILS (Integrated Logistic Support) support requirements.
  • Growing the service and support function within the business in line with the Head of Customer Support Services direction.
  • Providing IPS insights and inputs to future and current customer supportability requirements.
  • Supporting the engineering functions in carrying out new and in-service products and system supportability analysis.
  • Keeping the Portfolio and Project Managers informed of relevant risks, issues, and progress of the IPS functions, escalating appropriate matters for resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering the IPS service support offering across key business functions, such as portfolio, project management, engineering, and manufacturing, to ensure they meet whole life cost targets and project/service profitability
  • Determining, developing, and delivering project IPS strategies, plans, and reports in conjunction with the relevant service and project deliverables
  • Collaborating with engineering, production, and supply chain to provide product and system supportability reporting and assurance, using relevant ARM&T (Availability, Reliability, Maintainability, and Testability) principles
  • Owning and managing the Service and Support IPS responses to Customer Requests for Proposal (RFP), Invitations to Tender (ITT), Statements of Work (SoW), Tender Assessments, and Contract Specifications
  • Supporting business growth as an IPS Subject Matter Expert (SME) by contributing to bids, partnering agreements, pre-contract discussions, product development, and project IPS meetings and reviews
  • Supporting engineering in the production of Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) generation

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree or HND/HNC qualified in electrical or mechanical engineering or with relevant experience in the Defence Industry

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience contributing to bid responses, understanding customer requirements, estimating costs, and providing bid content such as ILS/IPS plans
  • Experience in the service support of low volume, high-value products and systems in a highly regulated environment
  • Knowledge and experience of the application of through-life support standards such as DEF STAN 00-600, 00-40, 00-42, Mil Std 217F, and KiD
  • Experience in working with customers in a matrix-managed team
  • Good knowledge of MOD support frameworks and experience in their application as a supplier
