Rotherwood Education are currently recruiting a Special Educational Needs Teacher to join a dynamic and high achieving department teaching a very small group of SEN pupils in a mixed-year class, ranging approximately from Year 7 to Year 10.

The role is a full time, ongoing position starting ASAP, with a view to becoming permanent.

As a full-time Special Educational Needs Teacher, the applicant will be expected to take part in any necessary duties of a permanent teacher such as planning and preparing lessons, parents evening and staff meetings.

The ideal Special Educational Needs Teacher will:

  • Be either SEN-trained or possibly primary-trained, as they will be delivering a curriculum that supports the core curriculum, with a strong focus on developing essential skills such as reading, handwriting, and other foundational learning skills.
  • Adapt teaching to support students working well below their chronological age in key skills.
  • Plan and create tailored resources independently, rather than relying on pre-prepared materials.
  • Demonstrate creativity and initiative in meeting the specific needs of each pupil.
  • Manage a broad range of abilities within the class, with some pupils having a reading age below six, while others may have a reading age of over 13.
  • Provide details of last 2 latest references, covering the last 5 years’ work history
  • Possess a current DBS check or be prepared to apply for one as part of your registration
  • Be committed to the safeguarding of children and young people
  • Be willing to complete a face to face registration and satisfy several checks
