I am working with our highly established client in Rosyth looking for experienced QC Inspectors with NDT qualifications to join them for an initial 6-month contract.

30 per hour PAYE (Inside IR35), OT available evenings/weekends paid at 1.5 standard rate
Clearance: Must be eligible for SC and ITAR clearance

Main Purpose of Role

Due to continued growth a rare and exciting opportunity has presented itself within the business. This client is specifically looking for a high calibre QC Inspectors with NDT certifications to join their QC team on the Type 31 Frigate Programme.
Successful candidates will report to the Senior Quality Control Inspector. The Post Holder shall also support the Quality Manager in ensuring the T31 Quality and Governance Objectives are achieved and support Quality Improvement initiatives across the T31 project.

Responsibilities

  • Working in a fast-paced shipbuilding environment
  • Structural inspection and acceptance of ships structures
  • Provide close liaison with Lloyds Register and other inspection and verification bodies as required.
  • Manage the ITR inspection regime and maintain completion records within CMS
  • Manage and coordinate LR inspections and co-ordinating their inspection diary.
  • Conduct product verification audits and quality investigations on board ship as required.
  • Where qualified carry out Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant or Ultrasonic Inspection of Welds and Components
  • Update and communicate inspection metrics in line with day-to-day activities
  • Complete inspection reports in a timely manor
  • Develop working relationships with work colleagues
  • Work will require dexterity and ability to work at height and in confined spaces
  • Candidates will have to demonstrate their certified proficiencies (Trade Test).


What do I need to do the role?

Technical competencies / skills:

  • An excellent knowledge of the Quality Control requirements associated with the construction and acceptance of Naval Warships.
  • The capability to assess the work carried out by Production and their subcontractors to assure the quality and the technical acceptability of the work presented.
  • The in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of Quality Control.
  • A sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship construction and design and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct decisions to ensure acceptance to the specified standards.
  • Good communication and report writing skills.
  • A good understanding of warship technology and its associated validation processes.
  • A well-developed understanding of ship construction
  • Proven knowledge of the practices and standards associated with NDT;
  • High level of attention to detail;
  • Good communication / people skills;
  • Well organised and able to work to tight deadlines;
  • Proactive but with the ability to react quickly when necessary to meet challenging objectives;
  • IT ability in the practical use of Microsoft Office, and IFS;
  • Ability to make decisions on own initiative;
  • Ability to analyse problems and identify practical solutions;

Technical experience and qualifications

  • Qualified to a recognised trade standard (Fabrication/Welding/Shipwright/Marine Engineering) and a relevant academic level (HNC/SVQ Level 3).
  • This Post requires extensive experience in multi-disciplines within a manufacturing environment with both fabrication and structural experience.
  • Work experience within a process-based validation context or within a compliance based environment is desirable.
  • Proven experience in conducting inspections,
  • Good working knowledge of ship-building practices, standards and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to read and interpret ship construction drawings & specifications.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to collate and present information at appropriate levels.
  • Minimum PCN Level 2 in MT
  • RI PCN Level 2 preferable
  • IPAF Preferrable
  • Any additional NDT Certifications or Coatings inspection certifications
  • At least 5 years continued experience in NDT
  • Candidates will be required to demonstrate certified proficiencies (Trade Test)

Key Interpersonal/Behavioural Skills

The Post Holder will be working as a Key player within the T31 Project and will have a high level of interaction with all of the wider community both at strategic and tactical levels. e.g. Production, Engineering, Client, Lloyds Register etc. This is essential to developing a sound basis for acceptance, completion and Handover within a tight schedule and budget. Excellent communication, analysis and influencing skills will be required to discharge the role effectively as well as the ability to work in a multidiscipline environment.

The Post Holder will also require to:

Company/Industry Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Proven relevant experience in engineering or a defence or related industry with specific emphasis on the Naval Construction Quality processes and standards.
  • A Broad working experience in more than one phase of the construction and acceptance process with sufficient experience to enable a good understanding of adjacent activities and through life operational issues.
