Astute are looking for an Operations Manager for a large Biomass plant located in Rotherham, Yorkshire. The plant is a 44MW waste wood burning plant, consisting of heat recovery units, steam turbine & generator.

As the Operations Manager you'll be supporting the day to day running of the Plant by coordinating the activities of the Operations Team. This includes ensuring the safe & efficient operation of the plant, ensuring compliance with relevant policies & processes and managing the contractual obligations of the power station.

Responsibilities and duties:
As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the plant inline with the O&M contractual agreement.
  • The day-to-day management of all operations staff including shift teams and operations day staff
  • Overseeing the sites Health & Safety policies and ensures that this is upheld on site.
  • Ensuring the Biomass plant operates and complies within environmental regulations at all times, ensuring emissions are monitored in line with the environmental permit.
  • Liaising with the Management team and other relevant personnel regarding projects, maintenance, outages and programming of plant improvements.
  • Overseeing 3rd party contractors.
  • Preparing the annual budget for the operations department for review and work within this budget.
  • Liaising with company directors and managers as well as external stakeholders such as contractors, principal client, and the environmental agency.
  • Working with the Management Team on any ongoing recruitment requirements.
  • Deputising for the members of the Management team when required.



Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
  • At least a HNC / HND Engineering qualification and a member of a recognised Engineering Institute
  • Ideally qualified with a degree
  • Recognised as a Senior Authorised Person for High Voltage Electrical Systems
  • IOSH or NEBOSH in Health & Safety with relevant knowledge of all applicable legislation such as PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work etc



Personal skills
The Operations Manager would suit someone with:
  • Previous Management experience (minimum Operational / Shift Team Leader) level of an Energy from Waste or similar Steam Raising process (CHP, CCGT Power Station, Biomass, Paper Mill)
  • Experience in management of an Operational budget, Environmental Permits, H&S issues and staff training & development.
  • Experience working to Safe Systems of Work, LOTO procedures, Isolations etc.
