An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Town Planner to join a leading land promoter and developer, specialising in strategic land development across the UK. This role offers a unique chance to work on high-profile residential and commercial projects, driving them through the planning system from initial promotion to securing planning permissions.

Role Purpose:

As a Senior Town Planner, you will lead the strategic promotion of land through the Local Plan process, managing planning applications and appeals, and collaborating with stakeholders to maximize the potential of development sites. Your expertise in planning and development will be crucial in shaping key projects and securing successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Land Promotion: Lead the promotion of sites through the planning process to secure allocations for housing and commercial developments.
  • Planning Applications: Prepare, submit, and negotiate planning applications, ensuring compliance with planning policies and strategies.
  • Site Assessments: Conduct thorough site appraisals, identifying opportunities and constraints to inform planning strategies.
  • Reserved Matters & Discharge of Conditions: Oversee the management of Reserved Matters applications and ensure the timely discharge of planning conditions.
  • Consultant Management: Appoint and manage external consultants including planning, design, and environmental experts to deliver successful planning outcomes.
  • Local Plan Monitoring: Stay up-to-date with changes in Local Plans, housing land supply, and planning policies that could impact the development portfolio.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with landowners, local authorities, and statutory bodies to negotiate and secure planning permissions.
  • Appeals Management: Manage the planning appeals process where necessary, including liaising with legal advisors and planning inspectors.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in planning, preferably within a land promotion, housebuilding, or consultancy environment.
  • Excellent understanding of UK planning law, Local Plan processes, and housing land supply issues.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead and deliver complex planning applications.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience liaising with local authorities, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Full membership of the RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) or working towards accreditation is preferred.
  • A full UK driving license is required.
