Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Runcorn-based single-form entry primary school as they are looking to appoint a motivated and experienced teaching assistant to support a pupil within the reception class on a 1:1 basis as they have been subject to significant trauma and presenting complex SEMH. This is a full-time long-term contract.Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting a pupil with significant trauma and SEMH on a 1:1 basis. You will be this pupils' main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate and walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day. As this pupil is a child in care and has been subject to significant trauma, they will at times present challenging behaviour. You will be required to take a trauma-informed approach and implement a myriad of positive behaviour strategies to regulate their behaviours such as destruction, de-escalation, regulation and taking them outside the classroom to burn off steam and use a sensory room. You will directly liaise with the class teacher, SENCO and head teacher on their progress and may be asked to give input during multidisciplinary meetings.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience supporting children aged between 4 - 11 and:

  • Experience supporting Trauma, SEMH and/or challenging behaviours
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous
  • Be willing to commit to a long-term full-time contract
