Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a single-form entry primary school in the heart of Runcorn town centre that is easily accessible via public transport as they require a motivated and experienced teaching assistant to support a pupil on a 1:1 basis within the KS1 resource base. This is a long-term full-time contract starting after the half-term.Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school, you will be based within a KS1 resource base within a mainstream primary school. You will be supporting a pupil within KS1 on a 1:1 basis that has SEMH and presents some behavioural needs. You will be this pupils' main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting at the school gate, supporting them during break/lunch times and within the main classroom. You will build a strong constructive relationship with this pupil as to ensure that their needs are at the heart of operations as to ensure that they understand that you are there to support them. As they do have SEMH you will take a trauma informed approach and implement a myriad of positive behaviour strategies best suited to their needs and personality, focusing on positive behaviour reinforcement and de-escalation techniques. In the event that you feel their behaviours are escalating, you will ensure that this happens within a safe space, removing them from their peers, taking them into a sensory room, or taking them on to the playground to burn off steam.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience supporting students aged between 5 - 11 in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Experience supporting SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Be able to commit to a full-time contract with hours consisting of 8:30am - 3:30pm
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous but not required.
