Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Runcorn-based single form entry primary school in Runcorn as they are looking to recruit a motivated and experienced teaching assistant to support the KS1 resource base. This is an ongoing long-term full-time position (32.5 hours per week) supporting a pupil with SEMH on a 1:1 basis.Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school you will be supporting a pupil within the KS1 resource base on a 1:1 basis. This pupil has SEMH and does present challenging behaviours and although not being physically aggressive, then will at times be verbally aggressive. This is not a personal attack but a cry for help and a need for reassurance. To build a strong constructive relationship with this pupil, you will be their main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate, supporting during break/lunchtime, and walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day. As well as offering intervention and booster sessions and encouraging your pupil to partake in lessons to support their attainment needs, you will follow their EHCP and implement a myriad of positive behaviour strategies to effectively manage their behaviours i.e., traffic light systems, positive behaviour reinforcement, now & next, and taking them out of the class to burn of steam. As well as offering positive behaviour support, you will introduce coping techniques to help them further develop their emotional skills.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days of referenceable experience supporting children and/or young between between the ages of 5 - 11 in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Experience supporting SEMH, Trauma and/or challenging behaviours
  • Experience implementing positive behaviour strategies
  • The ability to build and maintain a strong constructive relationship
  • An NVQ Level 2 or equivalent Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification is advantageous but not essential
