Senior Scientist (Molecular Biology)

Cambridge 

Full time and permanent

Reed Scientific are working with a Cambridge based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company who have an opening within their Pre-clinical development team and are looking for an experienced molecular biologist who can support on multiple activities relating to drug discovery and clinical trials.  

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide assay development expertise to characterize candidate strains and support assays for external cGMP manufacturing and early-phase clinical trial sample analysis.
  • Execute QPCR assays to quantify bacteria in clinical trial samples.
  • Develop microbiological and molecular assays to characterize novel bacterial isolates and test hypotheses on their mechanisms of action in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Provide cross-team support by lending expertise in microbiology.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff members.

Candidate Specifications:

  • PhD in the Life Sciences or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills, with a willingness to share know-how and expertise in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage interactions both inside and outside the company.
  • Hands-on experience working with bacteria and with quantitative PCR assays.
  • At least three years of experience in an industrial setting, or relevant post-doctoral experience, ideally working in a GxP environment.
