About our client:

Our client built its first rural affordable homes in 1987 and since then all their homes have been built to a higher standard than required by building regulations. Innovation and sustainability are high on their agenda.

Our client built the UK’s first rural affordable Passivhaus scheme in 2011 and they developed their own New-Build Standard in 2021. This new Standard adopts a fabric-first approach, reducing carbon emissions and saving residents money on their heating bills. Other key elements of the Standard are reduced water consumption, local vernacular design, minimal impact on the environment, Nationally Described Space Standards (NDSS), as well as accessibility and future-proofing features.

About the role:

You will contribute to the ongoing delivery of the New-Build Standard by providing an excellent quality control service on new build affordable housing projects. You will provide technical support to the wider development team at all stages of development. You will also be instrumental in tackling and resolving latent defects and historical issues, working closely with contractors and consultants, including in relation fire prevention related defects.

This will involve:

  • Visiting sites and inspecting the works on a fortnightly or weekly basis to ensure full compliance with the Building Contract and Employers Requirements, Building Regulations, Fire Safety Measures, Health & Safety legislation and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  • Ensuring contractors meet our clients quality standards, identifying potential building defects, monitoring health and safety on-site, contractual risks and putting in place remedies.
  • Attending pre-start and progress meetings as needed and acting as the client’s representative.
  • Attending to defects during the defect liability period and end of defects inspections, ensuring defects are remedied within timescales and re-inspecting where necessary.
  • Supporting the Technical Manager in the identification and resolution of Latent Defect challenges and assisting in the management of a planned programme of fire related latent defects rectification.
  • Being a first point of contact for providing assistance, expert advice and solutions on construction issues in Development.

About you:

Our client is looking for someone with:

  • Strong technical knowledge of house building/construction (passivhaus experience would be a bonus)
  • Knowledge of different regulations affecting the construction of affordable homes
  • Experience of dealing with and resolving latent defects (fire related would be a bonus)
  • Someone who enjoys a varied and challenging workload that brings positive results for residents
  • The ability to build and maintain good working relations with a range of people
  • Good IT literacy (with an ability to learn new systems)
  • The ability to work under your own initiative as well as enjoy being part of a team
  • The ability to work remotely and travel regularly to different sites across the East of England
