My client is seeking a Freelance Senior Structural Engineer to support their growing portfolio of bridges and highway structures projects. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on critical national infrastructure, applying advanced structural analysis and design techniques to ensure the safety and longevity of transport networks.

As a senior specialist, you will provide technical leadership, deliver complex design solutions, and conduct rigorous assessments of bridges and other highway-related structures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Structural Design & Assessment: Lead the design, analysis, and assessment of highway bridges, retaining walls, culverts, gantries, and other structures in accordance with UK standards (DMRB, Eurocodes, British Standards).

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Utilise advanced FEA techniques to evaluate structural integrity, loading conditions, and material performance using software such as LUSAS, MIDAS, SAP2000, or ANSYS.

  • Technical Oversight: Provide expert guidance on structural engineering challenges, including fatigue analysis, load assessment, and remedial works for aging infrastructure.

  • CAD & 3D Modelling: Develop detailed drawings and models using AutoDesk software (AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D) to support design and documentation.

  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including highways, geotechnical, and environmental specialists, ensuring seamless project integration.

  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs adhere to UK industry standards, including DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges), MCHW (Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works), and Eurocodes.

  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design calculations for client submissions and approval.

Qualifications & Experience:

? Chartered Engineer (CEng) with ICE / IStructE.? Extensive experience in the design, assessment, and strengthening of highway bridges and structures.? Strong expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using industry-recognized software such as LUSAS, MIDAS, ANSYS, or similar.? Proficiency in AutoDesk CAD software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D.? Strong understanding of UK highway standards, including DMRB, MCHW, and Eurocodes.? Ability to work independently in a freelance capacity, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines efficiently.? Experience liaising with clients, contractors, and local authorities on infrastructure projects.
