Join Belcan Workforce Solutions as a Principal Mechanical Process Engineer for a leading UK construction and regeneration group. This 6-month contract role is based in Manchester, with a strong likelihood of extension. The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring one day per week in the office. This role falls Inside IR35.







Responsibilities

  • Serve as the mechanical lead on a large nuclear fuel reprocessing project.
  • Produce mechanical engineering design deliverables, including calculations, datasheets, specifications, and schedules.
  • Contribute to safety reviews and risk assessments.
  • Ensure mechanical deliverables meet quality and compliance standards, project brief, and customer requirements.
  • Review vendor quotations and liaise with equipment and package vendors.
  • Specify, design, and evaluate the capacity of utility systems.
  • Check piping design documents, including isometrics and layout drawings.
  • Assist in plant layout development.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design team members to deliver safe, efficient, and buildable solutions.






Accountabilities

  • Adhere to programme schedules, fixed work-hour budgets, and tight deadlines.
  • Ensure designs comply with regulatory and best practice standards for mechanical engineering.
  • Liaise directly with the client and represent client professionally.
  • Manage the technical workload of a mechanical team (potentially 2-4 engineers).






Requirements

Essential

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Significant experience in the nuclear sector.
  • Experience in coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer Status.
  • Experience in nuclear fuel reprocessing.
  • Ownership, innovation, initiative, and a drive for client satisfaction.
