the role.

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Assistant Manager to join a dynamic business based in Saxmundham. In this role, you will manage end-to-end payroll processing for a variety of clients across sectors such as retail, technology, charities, and agriculture. This role will also include assisting and supervising junior staff, as well as quoting for and onboarding new clients.

Your day-to-day duties include:

  • Full end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients
  • BACs payment processing
  • Managing payroll queries and ensuring timely resolution
  • Direct communication with clients
  • Overseeing deadlines and ensuring payroll accuracy
  • Supervising and assisting junior staff (Assistant Manager level)

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of 2 years of end-to-end payroll experience. You should have a strong understanding of payroll legislation, including auto-enrolment pensions, statutory payments, and HMRC regulations, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines is essential, as are strong written and verbal communication skills. You should feel confident liaising with clients and third parties, and possess a full UK driving licence with access to your own transport. Ideally, you will have experience in a UK practice or professional services environment, a CIPP certificate or foundation degree in payroll management, and familiarity with payroll software such as Star/IRIS Payroll Professional, Sage Payroll, and HMRC Basic Tools. Additionally, experience with BACS processing and client onboarding would be advantageous
