GSL Education’s North Yorkshire branch is currently looking to recruit dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Teaching Assistants to work with students aged 8 to 16 who have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Behaviour Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).
  • Help students manage their behaviour and access learning in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Assist class teachers in implementing behaviour management plans.
  • Build trusting relationships and rapport with students to help re-engage them with their learning in a safe and caring environment.
  • Promote emotional well-being and flexibility through active listening, encouragement, and tailored support.

Behaviour Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH challenges, SEN, or similar needs.
  • Be knowledgeable about different complex needs, associated learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.
  • Possess excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have knowledge of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques, or a willingness to learn.
  • Have an Enhanced Child Only or Child and Adult DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
