Catering/Kitchen Manager

V-Recruit are excited to be working in partnership with one of the UKs most forward thinking, recognised and respected Multi-Academy Trusts to recruit an experience Catering Manager for one of their Secondary academies, based in Scunthorpe, Northeast Lincolnshire.

We are currently recruiting for a Catering/Kitchen Manager, to be based permanently in one of their Scunthorpe-based secondary schools.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Catering/Kitchen Manager, bringing with it some of the perks of working within an educational environment, such as 13.5 weeks holiday per year, sociable hours and a rewarding but satisfying working environment.

You will be responsible for the whole academy catering provision, developing and progressing the catering provision to deliver healthy, high quality meals that meet Nutritional Standards.

Some of your day-to-day duties will include:

  • To plan, prepare, cook and present food to the standards required by Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995, The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the MAT policies.
  • To plan daily menus, making provision as appropriate for special dietary requirements, and order stock accordingly.
  • To ensure that the academy’s reputation for excellence in both food and service is always upheld.
  • To assist the Catering Directors in preparing the annual budget, and to achieve and maintain the food cost in accordance with the budget, and to assist with the coordination of procurement of goods and services.
  • To set objectives and be responsible for the day to day running of the location, including supervising the recruitment and selection process, training, monitoring development and progress of staff.
  • To line manage the team of cooks, catering staff and breaktime supervisors, dealing with any issues that arise.
  • To conduct Food Safety and Health & Safety Risk Assessments and ensure that all standards and procedures in relation to Hygiene and Safety are established and maintained in line with company policy.
  • To maintain food stock levels and complete stock returns by the date required.
  • To establish and maintain cleaning schedules
  • To ensure that all equipment is well maintained and is in good working order, and to make recommendations for renewal and replacement where required.
  • To ensure that delivery notes are checked against requisitions and any identified discrepancies are reported to the supplier immediately
  • To comply with the academy’s Child Safeguarding Procedures, including regular liaison with the Designation Child Safeguarding Person over any safeguarding issues or concerns.

Job Specifics

Actual salary works out as £22,630-£27,334k per annum, with 12 equal salary payments.

(FTE/Grade Salary is £27,809-£27,334)

Please note that this role is working 38 weeks per annum (Term Time Only, plus 3 days), meaning that you will have 12 weeks none-working time per year, as directed by the school’s term dates. You will be paid your actual salary with 12 equal payments, so there will be no periods that you are unpaid throughout the year.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Candidate requirements

  • Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, or equivalent
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene qualifications
  • Strong Supervisory experience
  • Experience of preparing, cooking and presenting food to meet quality, cost and food and health and safety standards
  • Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to plan whilst staying calm under pressure
  • Demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving, and good negotiation skills
  • Financially and commercially astute
  • Driving licence is very desirable, as some travel to alternative sites, for relief and training purposes
