Overall purpose of job
:
Assist the Transport Officer with the day-to-day operations of the Wheels to Work (WTW) Scheme.

Main responsibilities:

  • Collect vehicles from the designated location and carry out vehicle checks before commencing assigned duties.
  • Return the vehicles in a clean condition with adequate fuel, to its designated parking location, secured and the keys returned to their overnight place.
  • Maintain vehicles and keep in a clean condition.
  • Complete and return vehicle defect sheet/log sheet on daily basis.
  • Collect and deliver mopeds to clients' homes or work for services or breakdowns.
  • Conduct home visits within North Lincolnshire to assess storage security, assist Transport Officer with enforcement visits as applicable.
  • Assist the Transport Officer with the WTW client handovers at Midland Road Depot.
  • Support the Transport Officer to liaise with WTW clients to plan moped services, book CBT Training courses, collect information on moped checks, mileage deadlines, ensuring they are adhering to terms and conditions of the moped use and behaviour whilst on the scheme and work closely with external garages.
  • In the absence of the Transport Officer, process new WTW clients, in accordance with procedures.
  • Undertakes office duties occasionally e.g., filing, including filing to clients' files, confidential waste, recycling, telephone enquiries, archiving, post.
  • Cleaning and stock taking of mopeds/equipment as and when required, providing information to Transport Officer on stock availability.
  • Basic maintenance/repair of minor issues on mopeds/equipment (non-mechanical).
  • Comply with guideline including relevant risk assessments.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of driving medium sized vehicles.
  • Current driving licence (Minimum of Cat C1 & C1+E entitlement).
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Basic knowledge of IT applications including word processing, spreadsheets, email and internet.
  • Good and communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to undertake basic moped repairs.
  • Flexible approach to working arrangements.
  • Ability to transport self around North Lincolnshire in a timely manner.

Creativity and innovation:

  • Dealing with basic queries relating to Wheels to Work.
  • Deputise for the Transport Officer when on annual leave etc keeping scheme running with assistance from Senior Chargehand.
  • Required to deal with vehicle and scooter breakdowns relating to the Wheels to Work scheme.

Contacts and relationships:

  • Transport Officer – workload and allocation of tasks - daily.
  • Senior Chargehand/Chargehands – day to day issues - daily/as and when required.
  • Wheels to Work clients – conflict situations, arranging for servicing/repairs as required, handovers – daily.
  • Fleet Maintenance – van, equipment, moped advice/repairs – daily/as and when required.
  • CBT Trainer – booking training courses - as and when required.
  • External providers – moped repairs - as and when required.

Decision making:

  • Routine decisions concerning WTW operations within established guidelines (e.g. vehicle security).
  • Manage service dates and appointments with clients to keep WTW fleet road legal.
  • Refer any concerns regarding clients to the Transport Officer / Senior Chargehand as applicable.
  • When deputising for the Transport Officer, will need to make appropriate operational decisions, when processing new WTW clients (using established procedures

Working conditions:

  • Depot based.
  • May occasionally work at home/agile working.
  • Moped handover may involve some outside/lone working.
  • Some office based (Midland Road Depot).
