Principal Civil & Structural Engineer – CUMBRIA – TEMPORARY 1 YEAR+

VGC Group Limited are looking to recruit a Principal Civil & Structural Engineer on a temporary 1-year+ contract for an international infrastructure group delivering the UK’s power generation solutions based in Cumbria.

You will play a key part of the team working on one of the most important construction projects on site looking to safely design and deliver requirements in line with the needs of the Client.

  • £52.71ph PAYE – (also inside IR35 an option)
  • Site-based 4 days per week / 1 day home-based

Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the Site Engineering CSA workload, ensuring alignment with budget and schedule requirements.
  • Provide engineering support for construction and commissioning activities in accordance with the project timeline.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaboration with the permanent works design team in Warrington, the on-site construction team, and the client’s intelligent customer team to proactively resolve technical issues.
  • Address technical queries, product permits, concessions, and non-conformances promptly during construction.
  • Engage daily with construction personnel on-site, providing direct intervention when necessary to ensure compliance with design intent, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations (steelwork, concrete, and masonry), technical reports, and necessary site modification details with approval from the permanent works team.
  • Evaluate contractor method statements, inspection plans, and related documentation.
  • Participate in walkdowns, meetings, and project reviews as required

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified, preferably a Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE).
  • Nuclear industry experience preferred but not essential.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong communication, analytical, and teamwork skills. Understanding of CDM Regulations and Designer responsibilities.
  • Must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office software, STAAD-Pro, Tedds, Navisworks
