We're partnering with one of the UK's most prestigious independent schools to recruit a dynamic and experienced Management Accountant.

As a Management Accountant, you will play a critical role in supporting the School's financial objectives, working closely with academic and support staff to provide timely insights and support the School's mission through robust financial planning and analysis. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this role offers a unique opportunity to influence decision-making and foster financial sustainability within a prestigious and values-driven educational environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and financial commentary to inform decision-making.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of financial data to support business strategy and identify operational efficiencies.
  • Prepare statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors during the audit process.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Support the annual budget preparation process, working closely with department heads to create accurate and achievable budgets.
  • Prepare and update forecasts in response to changes in the School's financial environment.
  • Monitor budget performance, providing updates and recommendations to budget holders to ensure financial alignment with school objectives.

Cost Analysis and Controls

  • Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Identify financial risks and support the establishment of controls to mitigate potential impacts on school finances.

Ad hoc Responsibilities

  • Manage VAT implementation and ensure compliance through timely and accurate VAT returns, keeping the finance team informed of any regulatory updates.
  • Support various financial and operational projects to enhance overall school performance.

Person SpecificationThe successful candidate will be a proactive, resilient, and detail-oriented individual with the following attributes:

  • ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualified with substantial experience in financial accounting, ideally within the education sector, however candidates from outside of the sector are welcome to apply.
  • Strong analytical skills and a problem-solving mindset, able to present complex information to non-financial stakeholders effectively.
  • Familiarity with VAT and payroll regulations, with experience managing VAT processes.
  • A positive, can-do attitude, with an ability to meet strict deadlines and work calmly under pressure.

This is a full-time role based at the campus at least three days per week, with opportunities for professional development and growth within a collaborative and supportive environment.
