Specification Technologist
  • Location: Sevenoaks
  • Job Type: Full-time (Monday - Friday, hybrid) 
  • Travel: Occasional travel required in both UK and abroad, including overnight stays.

Reed Food & FMCG have been briefed to recruit a Specification Technologist, in this role you will support the company’s technical function and act as the key technical contact for specifications and customer requests. This role is crucial in managing the safety, legality, and quality of the products sold by maintaining the company’s specification system and due diligence systems.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Maintain the Company quality management system to stay ahead of customer expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and other business partners.
  • Integrate standards created by external bodies and customers within internal quality management systems.
  • Provide customers with all necessary and requested information on products and suppliers in a timely manner.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints, maintaining an up-to-date complaints log and trending, communicated appropriately.
  • Keep supplier and customer specifications and Quality Assurance Specifications (QAS) accurate and up-to-date.
  • Manage supplier files to ensure clear and current information is always available.
  • Ensure compliance of suppliers and third-party service providers with customer requirements and safety and legality standards.
  • Support Technical Managers in preparing for customer visits and audits, providing necessary information and managing non-conformance closure.
  • Arrange store visits, product sensorial assessments, or laboratory analysis, ensuring results are recorded and interpreted correctly, and any non-conformances or improvements are communicated and actioned.
  • Identify non-conformances in systems, processes, or products, assist with root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems and customer standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
