GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Science Technician to join a growing school in Sheffield. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering an excellent educational experience for students studying Science.
About the Role:
The Science Technician will work closely with a small and growing team of staff, ensuring students receive high-quality Science education from the very beginning. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, flexible, and committed to creating the best opportunities for every student. This role is essential in supporting the development of the school as it expands year on year.
The successful applicant will provide technical support to the Science Department under the direction of the Senior Science Technician. This includes preparing resources for practical lessons, maintaining equipment, and offering assistance and advice to teaching staff as needed.
Science Technician Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up equipment, materials, and resources for practical Science lessons.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained, clean, and in good working order.
- Support teachers in the delivery of practical lessons, including providing advice on the use of equipment and resources.
- Monitor stock levels of materials and equipment and assist in ordering new supplies as required.
- Maintain a safe and organised environment in the Science laboratories, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of risk assessments for practical experiments.
- Provide technical advice and assistance to staff and students during practical sessions.
- Support the Senior Science Technician in managing the day-to-day running of the Science Department.
- Contribute to the overall development of the Science curriculum by collaborating with teaching staff.
Requirements for Science Technician:
- Prior experience working as a Science Technician in a school or laboratory setting is desirable.
- A strong understanding of Science subjects and practical experiments.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide support and guidance to staff and students.
- A flexible and proactive approach to work.
