Sheffield City Council are looking for Seven Grounds Maintenance Workers to join their team. This role involves undertaking environmental and horticultural maintenance duties across the city. The ideal candidates will be physically fit and healthy, as the job requires lifting heavy items and working outdoors.
Day-to-day of the role:- Under the supervision of a supervisor, carry out defined horticultural maintenance work in parks and other green open spaces to ensure they are clean, safe, and attractive. This includes:
- Using horticultural machinery and equipment, including ride-on mowers.
- Using hand tools.
- Emptying litter and dog bins and maintaining their surroundings.
- Perform general gardening and environmental maintenance duties such as hedge cutting, pruning, grass cutting, litter picking, and removal of fly-tipped rubbish, using appropriate equipment as directed.
- Undertake some duties without direct supervision, including emptying bins, litter picking, and general gardening.
- Carry out improvement work, including preparation and painting of outdoor fixtures, erection of temporary fencing, signage, and installation of dog bins.
- Work in accordance with established Safe Systems of Work, Health and Safety Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures.
- Meet clients as appropriate and ensure proper documentation like ‘Waste Transfer Notes’ is undertaken and recorded in line with current legislation.
- Drive and clean council vehicles.
- Undertake training and development to improve skills and competences as necessary.
- Must be physically fit and healthy, capable of lifting heavy items and working outdoors.
- Experience in horticultural maintenance or a similar role is advantageous.
- Ability to use horticultural machinery and equipment.
- Knowledge of health and safety guidelines relevant to the role.
- Driving licence is preferred to operate council vehicles.
