Thermal Hydraulic Test Engineer
Location: Fusion Technology Facility, Rotherham


Job Description / Job Scope:
1. Support the set-up and operation of bench-top scale thermal hydraulic testing rigs within the Thermal Hydraulics Group.
2. Identify and implement appropriate thermal hydraulic testing and diagnostic solutions.
3. Develop techniques and safe operations with novel fluids including low-pressure, room-temperature, non-hazardous liquid metals (GaInSn alloy).
4. Apply state-of-the-art experimental diagnostic techniques, including ultrasonic techniques, to provide high quality data for benchmarking of simulations.
5. Contribute towards reports and documentation, including engineering quality assurance processes
6. Contribute to improving best practices and quality standards within the team, division and across the organisation.
7. Ensure your behaviour promotes the safety, health and welfare of yourself and colleagues.
8. Work in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by Management.

Qualifications Required:
* Degree in a STEM-related discipline, or similar level of experience in a structured research environment.
Experience Required
* Experience in thermal hydraulic testing in a research environment for validation of simulation codes including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods.
* Ability to perform exploratory design calculations using first principles and capability in engineering analysis.
* Experience of working within a controlled engineering environment, including following design requirements and/or design brief, working to and maintaining established procedures, following and developing risk assessment and written statements of work.
* Ability to use initiative and creativity to resolve queries or issues and improvements, in a proactive manner and apply appropriate attention to detail.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
