Role Overview:
As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you'll be a key player in creating a nurturing and structured environment for children with additional needs. Collaborate with class teachers, SEN specialists, and therapists to provide tailored support, ensuring each child thrives academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- One-to-one and small group support: Engage students in their learning journey and help them develop essential skills.
- Implementing personalised learning plans: Adapt teaching materials to meet each child's unique needs.
- Encouraging social and emotional development: Use strategies to boost confidence, resilience, and independence.
- Providing sensory and behavioural support: Apply de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Assisting with speech and language interventions: Work alongside therapists to support children's communication needs.
- Helping with structured routines: Ensure a safe, consistent, and engaging learning experience.
- Supporting personal care needs: Assist with toileting and mobility when required.
- Monitoring progress and providing feedback: Contribute to individual education plans (IEPs) and liaise with SEN professionals.
Requirements:
- Availability: Full-time commitment with consistency and reliability.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children with SEN in a primary school setting.
- Qualifications: Relevant qualification in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or Special Educational Needs Support (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent).
- Communication Methods: Experience with Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices (desirable).
- Behaviour Management: Familiarity with positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Approach: Patient, empathetic, and proactive in working with children.
- Documentation: Updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
