Housing Surveyor – Shefford, BedfordshireSalary: £40,476 per annumHours: Full-time, Monday – FridayAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Housing Surveyor to join a dynamic Repairs, Voids, and Maintenance team, overseeing the maintenance and improvement of over 5,000 council-owned homes. This role is ideal for an experienced surveyor looking to take ownership of property inspections, project management, and ensuring homes remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting property inspections to assess and prioritise repairs, adaptations, and improvement works.
  • Managing the health, safety, and condition of council-owned properties, including void properties.
  • Planning, procuring, and delivering revenue and capital works programmes, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
  • Overseeing contractors responsible for maintenance, servicing, and risk assessments, ensuring compliance and value for money.
  • Carrying out surveys to diagnose repair defects and implement effective remedial solutions.
  • Preparing reports, feasibility studies, and strategies to support maintenance and improvement initiatives.
  • Managing budgets, attending contractor meetings, and ensuring high standards of service delivery.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • HND/Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
  • Experience managing capital and revenue works, ideally within a social housing environment.
  • Strong understanding of housing maintenance, procurement, project management, and budget control.
  • Ability to manage workloads effectively, working within defined timescales across multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, liaising with contractors, tenants, and leaseholders.
