Senior E&I Technician

Location: Deeside, North Wales

Salary: £46,117.94 (open to discussion) 

Hours: 8am- 16:30pm Monday to Friday

Job Role:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Technician with previous experience as an Automation Technician wishing to continue to develop your skills within the automation industry. As part of the Engineering team, you will be passionate about personal growth and contributing to the development of the largest state-of-the-art containerboard and tissue machine facility.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated, dynamic Senior E&I Technician who can work as part of a team and lead other members of the department as well as participate within the maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist engineering support to various manufacturing production lines, including biofuel power plants, waste wood processing plants, effluent treatment plants, tissue machines, and recycling facilities.
  • Respond to plant breakdowns, working with the Automation team to diagnose faults and restore equipment efficiently.
  • Lead, coach, and train Automation Technicians in key competency areas.
  • Conduct root cause investigations, identify solutions, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide commissioning support for improvement projects and major initiatives such as biomass treatment, CHP, and low-pressure condensing turbine plants.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including instrument calibrations, electrical safety checks, fire system function checks, and periodic inspections.
  • Develop and maintain onsite electrical procedures, risk assessments, and documentation.
  • Contribute to the improvement and development of operational procedures.

Note: This is not an exhaustive list of duties.

 

Skills:

  • Ability to interpret P&ID, electrical schematics, and control loop diagrams.
  • Experience in AC/DC inverter drives, including fault finding, commissioning, and programming.
  • Maintenance and calibration of instrumentation equipment.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and DCS programming/modifications/improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive and team-oriented approach.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment with a flexible mindset.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety regulations.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a 4+ year Apprenticeship and an HNC or higher qualification in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an Automation Technician role or equivalent.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

Working Conditions:

  • On-site work within utilities production areas and project villages on a major construction site.
