About the CompanyWe are recruiting on behalf of a progressive and dynamic engineering company based in Shrewsbury. Specialising in innovative solutions for the construction industry, this company is dedicated to excellence in design, build, commissioning, and maintenance of complex engineering projects. They are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join the team on an interim basis, covering maternity leave.

The RoleAs the Interim Head of Finance, you will take on a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing all financial operations while collaborating closely with the Managing Director. You will ensure smooth financial processes, provide strategic financial insights, and help drive business performance during this critical time. This is a hands-on role suited to a finance leader with expertise in engineering, manufacturing, or construction sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire finance function, including financial reporting, forecasting, accounts payable/receivable, compliance, and cash flow management.
  • Develop and implement financial controls and procedures to ensure financial integrity and accuracy.
  • Prepare and present monthly management accounts and forecasts to the Board, offering strategic insights and recommendations.
  • Support the Managing Director with business strategy, driving profitability, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process and liaise with external accountants for year-end financial statements.
  • Ensure effective cash flow management, working capital optimization, and stock control.
  • Lead and mentor a small finance team, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally within engineering, manufacturing, or construction industries.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles, regulations, and standards.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting with advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Project accounting experience and familiarity with HR/IT management are beneficial.
