Principal Planning Consultant

Penguin Recruitment are delighted to be supporting a leading multidisciplinary who are looking to recruit a Principal Planning Consultant. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of planning projects across various sectors, including housing, leisure, energy, and agriculture. This is a key client-facing role, combining technical expertise with exceptional customer service to deliver high-quality planning advice and project leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Relationship Management: Take charge of building and maintaining long-term relationships with key clients, offering expert guidance and ensuring smooth project delivery from start to finish.
- Project Leadership: Lead major planning projects, ensuring timely delivery, managing budgets, and maintaining high standards across all phases of work.
- Strategic Planning Advice: Provide expert planning advice, addressing both immediate planning applications and long-term land promotion strategies.
- Documentation: Write and edit planning statements, appeal statements, design and access statements, and other planning reports.
- Land Promotion: Promote land for development through local planning processes, including the local plan review and representations to the local planning authority.
- Environmental Impact Assessments: Manage the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, contributing to and editing environmental statements.
- Stakeholder Meetings: Attend client, Local Planning Authority (LPA), and other subconsultant meetings, both virtual and in person, to ensure seamless communication and project progress.
- Business Development: Work with senior colleagues to develop new business opportunities and grow client relationships.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Proven Experience: Significant experience in a planning consultancy role, with the ability to manage your own caseload independently and effectively.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of the UK planning system, with additional experience in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) being highly advantageous.
- Professional Qualifications: Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) is essential.
- Excellent Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex planning issues to clients and stakeholders.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently, meet deadlines, and manage client expectations with minimal oversight.
Hours:
37.5 hours per week, with flexible working options available.
