Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a planning-led multi-disciplinary company based in Shropshire, covering all of England and Wales. Our client is seeking a Senior Planner to join their Applications Team and assist in managing a variety of planning and appeal casework. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to play a key role in the team's projects while supporting a wide range of clients across the country.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning-related Tasks:

  • Client File Assessment: Review and assess potential new client files prepared by others to identify key issues and opportunities.
  • Research: Conduct thorough research on site details, including planning history and relevant policies, to support planning applications and appeals.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site visits to gather critical information and assess the suitability of locations for development.
  • Fee Quotations: Prepare and present fee quotations for new projects, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project scope.
  • Strategy Development: Formulate strategies for planning appraisals, identifying key challenges and solutions.
  • Application Management:
    • Oversee the entire lifecycle of planning applications from appointment to determination.
    • Prepare documentation for fee invoices and assist with invoicing processes.
    • Develop statements and supporting documentation for planning applications, certificates of lawfulness, and appeals.
    • Coordinate the preparation of necessary documentation by the team and external consultants.
    • Monitor the progress of planning applications and lead negotiations with Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) and consultees.
    • Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates and ensure their needs are met.
  • Appeals:
    • Manage the preparation of appeal handover files and draft appeal statements.
    • Coordinate the submission of appeals and monitor progress through the appeal process.
    • Represent clients at planning appeals, ensuring their interests are effectively communicated.

General Office Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records, both physical and electronic, to ensure efficient project management and compliance.
  • Assist in general administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the practice.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to trainees and junior planners, supporting their development through the APC (Assessment of Professional Competence).

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Postgraduate qualification from an RTPI-accredited planning course.
  • Chartered Membership of the RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute).

Experience/Expertise:

Essential:

  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, technical, and legal documentation.
  • Strong professional telephone manner and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to gather and interpret complex information.
