Red Rock Partnership are delighted to be working with our prestigious client in Sittingbourne who are looking for Packaging Development Manager to join their busy team.

About The Role:

Define and drive the Group's packaging strategy, ensuring innovation, compliance, and sustainability. Build strategic partnerships, manage packaging development from concept to launch, and align with evolving legislation. Optimise costs, waste, and efficiency while supporting commercial growth.

Salary: up to £55,000 per annum, potential 10% bonus.

Working hours: 8am to 5pm; Monday to Friday

It is multisite role, travelling between them required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and define the Group's packaging strategy to drive scalable, market-leading innovation. Anticipate customer and consumer trends and requirements, and create a strategic plan to meet their evolving needs.
  • Align priorities to anticipate and support the commercial delivery of changes to UK packaging legislation, waste management infrastructure and/or customer and business requirements.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with leading packaging suppliers and waste management handlers to find, develop and implement commercially viable packaging and technology solutions for the Group.
  • Lead the packaging development process from inception (receipt of customer brief) through production trials to launch, managing the critical path. Work closely with customer packaging and technical teams to ensure that all new and existing product developments are operationally, commercially, and environmentally fit for purpose.
  • In collaboration with our client customers, build strategic relationships (where relevant) with retailer packaging teams, sharing technical expertise to support and accelerate the scale of innovation within the Group commercial framework.
  • Manage the packaging supplier approval process including due diligence to ensure all new and existing packaging meets relevant, food safety, ethical and environmental compliance requirements. Own the master approved supplier list and ensure alignment to all customer requirements.
  • Manage the packaging material specification approval process including due diligence to ensure all new and existing packaging meets relevant, food safety, ethical and environmental compliance requirements.   • Track, monitor and report on the impact of packaging development and innovation as it relates to production, packaging reduction, recyclable, cost, carbon emissions life cycle analysis and transport efficiency.
  • Identify the effects on packaging of future statutory and market changes, amending strategy where appropriate.
  • Review and identify existing process and or existing product packaging improvements to drive cost, environmental efficiency (box heights, capacity, pallet heights) and improve site recyclable rates across primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging formats.

About you:

  • Good report writing skills
  • Competency in MS Office
  • A minimum of 5 years in food packaging development
  • Experience of bringing packaging innovation to the market
  • Recent experience of working with major food retailers
  • Driving license and own transport.
