Job Description:We are seeking an experienced and passionate English Teacher for a maternity cover role at a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Skelmersdale. The PRU caters to students who have struggled in mainstream education, and as such, we are looking for someone who can provide a supportive and engaging learning environment. While the role is for an English specialist, we are open to applications from Primary-trained teachers who have experience teaching upper Key Stage 2 or are confident delivering English to a similar age group. This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on students who require a more individualized and nurturing approach to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons to small groups of students
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to meet the individual needs of students
  • Implement behaviour management strategies in line with the PRU's policies
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting lessons accordingly
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level (Primary-trained teachers with upper KS2 experience will also be considered)
  • Ability to build rapport with students and staff
  • Experience working with children with additional needs or in a PRU setting (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong classroom management skills and a patient, empathetic approach

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position.
