Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN), including those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join our team in a primary school setting.

About Us:
We are an inclusive primary school in Oldbury, Birmingham, focused on providing a positive and supportive environment for all students. We are seeking compassionate and skilled SEN Teaching Assistants to help support children with a variety of special educational needs, including SEND and SEMH.

Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support students with SEN, including those with SEMH, autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities. You will help create a positive classroom environment, provide tailored support, and assist with the social and emotional development of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support for students with SEN and SEMH.

  • Assist in implementing learning plans and strategies for students with SEND.

  • Support students with behaviour management and emotional regulation.

  • Help monitor progress and update reports for students with SEND.

  • Foster positive relationships with students, helping them build confidence and independence.

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to support student needs.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEND, particularly those with SEMH, autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities.

  • Level 2 or Level 3 childcare or supporting learning qualifications are preferred, but not necessary.

  • Understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.

  • Ability to support students with speech, language, and social development.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with students and families.

  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting children.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of SEND conditions, including autism, ADHD, and SEMH.

  • Experience with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Understanding of SEND legislation and codes of practice.

  • Experience supporting students with communication needs (e.g., Makaton or PECS).

  • Familiarity with assistive technology and resources for SEND support.
