Astute's Nuclear team is exclusively partnered with a speciality lifting and handling equipment business, acting as the lifting principal contractor on Hinkley Point C, and in the future, Sizewell C to recruit a Design Manager for its Hinkley Point C project.

The Design Manager will manage site technical documentation and supervise the technical aspects of site work. Responsibilities include coordinating technical issues with the Nuclear New Build Generation Company and responding to client feedback on technical documents. The Design Manager will oversee Field Change Requests and Non-Conformance Reports, as well as as-built documentation, designing temporary works, and coordinating experience feedback (REX).

The role comes with a base salary up to 65,000 depending on experience and a wealth of opportunity to work on prestigious nuclear projects in the UK.

Responsibilities and duties

As the Design Manager you will:

  • Oversee technical documentation, focusing on installation and commissioning procedures.
  • Supervise technical aspects of site work and present procedures to workers.
  • Handle technical issues with Nuclear New Build Generation Company and Responsible Designer
  • Coordinate and manage client comments on technical documents and responses from our client
  • Manage Field Change Requests (FCR) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), including identification, documentation, and resolution.
  • Manage and update as-built documentation.
  • Design temporary structures or systems as needed.
  • Coordinate the return of experiences to improve processes.
  • Ensure safety measures are in place for both facilities and personnel on-site.



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering (ideally a mechanical or structural background)
  • Mechanical and steel construction design background
  • Assembling operations experience
  • Experience in the lifting and handling sector
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems
  • Excellent computer skills - Solidworks/Autocad
  • Technical writing skills.



Personal skills

The Design Manager role would suit someone who has:

  • Experience in managing a team
  • Full current driving licence.
  • Ability to maintain Company integrity through confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to promote the Company
  • Ability to speak and understand basic French would be desirable
