Information about the Role:

Working as a Registered Mental Health Nurse at Southleigh Community Hospital your main duties will be to:

  • Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, and long term service users.
  • Behave in a professional and discreet manner at all times and in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code.
  • Be competent and confident in managing people with long term health conditions.
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for service users??with complex needs.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for service users (as appropriate).
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist service users in complex,
  • urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Recognise and work within own competence level
  • Produce accurate, contemporaneous, and complete records of service user interaction and consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Support, manage and guide support workers on a daily basis.
  • Continual personal development to develop oneself and the role.

Necessary Experience or Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid NMC Pin.
  • Experience working with people with mental health problems / learning disabilities.
  • Managing challenging and aggressive behaviour.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience of providing individualized and culturally sensitive care.
  • Ability to work on shift/rota pattern.
  • Have the right to the work in the UK.
  • Someone who has a real passion for caring and helping people.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a Mental health setting.

Information about the Service: At Southleigh Community Hospital we can accommodate up to 27 service users in 21 single en-suite bedrooms and 6 semi-independent apartments. These flexible apartments can be used to prepare service users for more independent living or alternatively to accommodate service users who require high level of personalised care and support.

Southleigh Community is suitable for individuals with a wide range of mental health needs. Typically, they have

  • Enduring mental health problems
  • Been in acute or specialist mental health settings and require longer-term support before they can be discharged into the community
  • Had unsuccessful experiences in less structured and supported placements
  • Been in secure services and require step - down into a less secure setting as they progress through their recovery journey
  • Had multiple admissions and require a longer-term engagement to break the cycle of admissions
