About the Role

Connect2Hampshire are currently recruiting for Night Care Officer to work in one of Hampshire County Councils Children's secure home based in Swanwick, Southampton.

We are looking for dedicated and compassionate staff to join the workforce at Swanwick Lodge, a secure children's home in the heart of Hampshire. Swanwick Lodge accommodates 10 children aged 11-17 who have been placed in a secure residential setting for their own safety and wellbeing. Providing full care, education and healthcare for children.

You will work as part of a diverse team, and your focus will be to monitor and provide care during the night for children, many of whom with complex care needs, to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing.

waking night shifts are 21.30 - 08.00 (10.5 hours per shift)

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  • Demonstrate the ability to make and sustain positive relationships with children.
  • Ensure that all recording such as incident reports are completed within the timeframe required.
  • Meet the children's basic needs in a way which demonstrates care for the child, acknowledges their individuality and enables them to learn how to meet their own
  • Ensures the needs of a child are met during night-time hours including; observations, completing clear and accurate records, building checks, managing the risk of self-harm and absconding from within the home.

Required Skills and Qualifications

No formal qualifications are required; you will be provided with the necessary training and support required for the role, as well as opportunities to develop both personal and professional skills.

Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of residential care work.
  • Appropriate Diploma Level 3/HNC/City and Guilds Certificate or practical experience
  • Understanding of key legislation relevant to children and young people.
  • Hold diploma Level 3 in Residential Childcare or equivalent, if not held you will be supported to gain this qualification.
