Personal Tax Manager - Established Accountancy Firm - Southampton

A fantastic opportunity has opened up for a skilled tax professional to join our well-regarded Southampton practice. As a trusted accountancy firm with a strong UK-wide presence and deep roots in the South Coast, we're known for delivering top-tier tax and accounting services with a personal touch. Our approachable, client-focused team takes pride in understanding what drives our clients-whether that's their businesses, investments, or family priorities.

We're looking for a Personal Tax Manager to join our private client team and play a key role in our ongoing success. In this role, you'll manage a varied portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, providing expert tax advice and compliance services. Working closely with our partners, you'll deliver outstanding support to clients while guiding and mentoring junior team members in our tax department.

Our clients include entrepreneurs, property investors, business owners, and families managing generational wealth. While most are UK-based, you'll also tackle intricate cases involving non-UK residents, international interests, and beneficiaries of UK and offshore trusts.

What You'll Do:

  • Handle all aspects of income tax (including National Insurance) and capital gains tax, such as reviewing PAYE coding notices.
  • Oversee and review Self-Assessment tax returns prepared by the team, ensuring accuracy before client approval and electronic submission.
  • Build strong client relationships through regular communication-emails, calls, and face-to-face meetings-covering topics like inheritance tax, income tax, and capital gains tax.
  • Support partners on advisory projects, preparing reports on areas like IHT planning, residency, UK trusts, and optimal business structures.
  • Lead client meetings (both existing and prospective), set budgets for follow-up work, and ensure timely, cost-effective delivery.
  • Manage HMRC correspondence, including s9A enquiries and digital disclosure submissions.
  • Coordinate the gathering of tax return data, liaising with clients and third-party professionals as needed.
  • Respond promptly to routine client correspondence.
  • Organise your workload to maintain exceptional client service and meet HMRC deadlines, working independently with confidence and initiative.
  • Handle quarterly billing, monitor reserves, and keep partners informed of any issues.
  • Track your time budgets and chargeability.
  • Contribute ideas and insights at internal team meetings.
  • Attend networking events to boost business development.

What We're Looking For:

  • CTA, ACA, or equivalent qualification with solid private client tax experience.
  • Confidence in client-facing situations, with strong communication skills for regular meetings and discussions.
  • Excellent organisational ability to juggle priorities and hit deadlines.
  • Self-motivation and initiative to work independently while managing your own time and budgets.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel, with good general IT skills.
  • People management experience to guide junior colleagues.
  • A sharp commercial mindset.

If you're enthusiastic about private client tax, thrive on connecting with high-net-worth individuals, and want to grow your career in a supportive, collaborative setting, we'd love to hear from you. Join a firm that values your expertise and offers a platform to shine.
