Teaching Assistant Learning Support Department

Supply Desk are currently recruiting for a committed Teaching Assistant to join the Learning Support Department of a welcoming secondary school in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with additional needs and is looking to develop their experience in a supportive secondary school environment.

About the Role:

You will be working closely with the schools SENCO and wider support team to assist students with a range of learning needs. This will involve in-class support, small group intervention, and occasional one-to-one work to help pupils access the curriculum, build confidence, and make progress in their learning.

The role is varied and would suit someone who is enthusiastic, patient, and adaptable, with a genuine interest in supporting young people in education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO and teaching staff to implement support strategies

  • Assist in delivering targeted interventions to support literacy, numeracy, and social development

  • Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a focused learning environment

  • Record and report student progress to relevant staff

The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have previous experience working in a secondary school or with students with additional needs

  • Be confident supporting students aged 11-16 in a classroom setting

  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Be patient, flexible, and proactive in their approach

  • Hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
