Our High Technology client based in Hedge-end, Southampton is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer on a fixed term contract basis (12 months).

The role is focused ondelivering continuous improvementand implementing safe, sustainable changes in the manufacturing practices within the business. Key aspects include process changes, flow and layout design to integrate new technologies and product lines, and ensuring smooth operation across the site. The engineer will focus on improvements aligned withefficiency, cost reductions, quality, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providemanufacturing engineering supportto the operational team.
  • Drivecontinuous improvementinitiatives related toquality, cycle times, cost reductions, and process enhancementsusinglean techniquesandvalue engineering.
  • Develop and maintainStandard Operating Procedures (SOPs)and technical specifications for equipment.
  • Establish and maintaintraining processesto enhance workforce competences.
  • Implementmetricsto measure the effectiveness of the manufacturing processes.
  • Assist indesigning, implementing, and maintainingmanufacturing system layouts.
  • Recommend and implement engineering solutions to control variation, reduce costs, and enhance process capability.
  • Usedata gathering and analysis,structured problem-solving techniques(A3, 8D, DMAIC), andSix Sigmato optimize processes.
  • Collaborate withengineering and NPI operations departmentsto ensure manufacturability and quality (DFx).
  • Conductrisk assessmentsfor new or altered equipment and processes.
  • Report on projectstatus and budgetto the management team.
  • Lead and implementchange managementprojects to meet manufacturing objectives.
  • Take ownership of resolvingnon-conformitiesin the manufacturing process.

Required Experience:

Essential:

  • 3-5 years experience +in a manufacturing engineering role with exposure tolean manufacturingand structured problem-solving (A3, 8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma).
  • Data analysis skillsrelated to design and manufacturing capability.
  • Experience in creatingstandard works,work instructions, and plottingwork/process flow.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Strongknowledge of health and safetymanagement in manufacturing.
  • Experience with5S implementation.

Preferable:

  • Experience in acleanroom environment.
  • Experience infine mechanical assembly.
  • Experience withTPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
  • Six Sigma Green Belt.
  • Knowledge oftakt time,OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness),capacity planning, andGage R&R.
  • SQL query writingskills.
  • Optical fibre handling, includingfusion processes (splicing).
