South Holland District Council are looking for a Housing Standards Officer to join their team. Are you looking to step into your next challenge and make a difference to housing standards in the private rented sector in the district?

The Housing Standards team are responsible for regulating the private rented sector, including houses in multiple occupation. The primary functions of the team include housing inspections, advice and where appropriate, enforcement, to ensure standards are met and maintained. As a Housing Standards Officer you will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Risk based onsite inspections of properties to identify deficiencies relating to categorised hazards, as prescribed by the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Identifying houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) and working with the property owner or manager to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Processing of HMO and caravan site licences
  • Immigration and Homes for Ukraine inspections including administering the relevant paperwork
  • Tacking empty homes across the district
  • Gathering evidence in order to serve the necessary statutory notices
  • Preparation of evidence bundles for court hearings

Do you possess the following qualities:

  • Experience of working with housing
  • A professional, calm and positive manner;
  • The ability to be sensitive but remain objective;
  • Effective communication and listening skills;
  • The ability to work as part of a team as well as under your own initiative;
  • Excellent written and IT skills and attention to detail; and
  • A desire to learn and train whilst in role.
