SEMH Teaching Assistant - SEMH School, St Albans

We are working with a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in St Albans to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional emotional and behavioural needs, helping them engage in education and develop essential life skills in a nurturing environment.

Role Overview:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs, promoting resilience, self-regulation, and positive behaviour
  • Work alongside a skilled team to deliver tailored interventions, supporting students' social, emotional, and academic development
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, creating a safe and supportive environment for learning and personal growth

Requirements:

  • Experience working in an SEMH or special educational setting with students who have social, emotional, or behavioural needs
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and effective strategies to support students in managing them
  • Excellent communication skills, patience, and the ability to stay calm and positive under pressure
  • A proactive, compassionate approach, with a commitment to helping students overcome barriers to learning
