Position Overview:

Mech Electrics are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our clients dynamic team in St Helens. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the tendering and estimation process for mechanical contracting projects across a range of sectors. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, project estimation, and cost management, as well as the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver accurate and competitive costings.

Key Responsibilities:

Preparation of Estimates: Review project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare detailed and accurate mechanical estimates for a variety of building services projects, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and pipefitting.
Tender Submissions: Develop and submit comprehensive tenders, ensuring all aspects of the mechanical scope are covered, including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Cost Analysis: Conduct thorough cost breakdowns for labour, materials, and plant, taking into account project risks, market conditions, and the latest industry pricing.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure the accuracy of costings and that all necessary resources are considered.
Site Surveys: Conduct site visits and surveys to evaluate existing conditions and gather relevant data to inform estimates.
Client Liaison: Communicate with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to discuss project requirements, address queries, and ensure alignment with cost expectations.
Value Engineering: Offer suggestions for value engineering to optimize costs without compromising on quality, safety, or project requirements.
Cost Monitoring: Assist in tracking project costs throughout the lifecycle of the project to ensure that projects are delivered on budget and on time.
Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports, bid documentation, and post-tender submissions, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all estimates.
Risk Management: Identify and assess risks in the tendering process and proactively develop strategies to mitigate potential cost overruns or project delays.

Key Requirements:


Experience: A proven track record (5+ years) as a mechanical estimator, ideally within the building services or mechanical contracting sector.
Qualifications: A relevant qualification in mechanical engineering, building services, or a similar field (e.g., HNC, HND, degree).
Knowledge: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and pipefitting. In-depth understanding of estimating techniques and cost management within building services projects.

Skills:

Proficient in using estimating software (e.g., Estimator, Causeway, or similar tools).
Strong numerical and analytical skills.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
Strong communication and negotiation skills to manage client and supplier relationships.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
