Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with an extremely supportive single-form entry mainstream primary school in St Helens as they are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated teaching assistant to support 3 pupils within the reception and Year 1 class with behavioural needs. This is a long-term, full-time temporary position that may lead to a permanent contract for the right individual.Your new roleIn your new role as a teaching assistant, you will be joining a team of like-minded professionals within an extremely supportive school that is at the heart of its local community. You will work alongside the reception and year 1 class teachers to offer a stimulating and engaging learning environment for all pupils, and support 3 pupils across both classes on a 1:1 basis. The 3 pupils you will be supporting all have big personalities and have different levels of behavioural needs. You will build strong constructive relationships with your new pupils by taking a pupil-centred approach to education and implementing an array of positive behaviour strategies. You will implement strategies best suited to your pupils' personalities and what they respond to. Typically, you will implement DOJO/reward charts, brain breaks, sensory play/therapy, regulation, and positive reinforcement. You will liaise with the teachers and SENCo on pupil progress as this will ensure that they reach their full academic potential.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable experience supporting children/young people with SEN in a professional capacity, as well as:

  • Experience supporting behaviours that challenge
  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract consisting of 32.5 hours per week (8:30am - 3:30pm)
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous but not required
