Your new companyOperating both in the UK and across the world, they are a leading contractor delivering projects across multiple sectors including; real estate, defence, education, highways, rail and water.Your new roleWorking on the largest highways project in the region involving a new 10 mile dual 2-lane carriageway, we are looking for a Highways Inspector to join the project team.As a Highways Inspector you will be responsible for managing material testing and ensuring compliance with works information. You will coordinate with the project site team, laboratory subcontractors, client inspectors, and the supply chain to ensure that the works are delivered according to specifications and design requirements. Your role includes on-site coaching and training for the delivery team to help them understand processes and requirements, supervising testing, reviewing results, and reporting compliance in preparation for quality sign-off and handover.Key Duties:

  • Work as part of an existing material engineering team and on-site laboratory facilities.
  • Ensure material compliance is prioritised in the delivery of works to achieve "right first time."
  • Communicate with the delivery team and subcontractors to ensure full understanding of material management and controls.
  • Be proactive in preventing substandard works by coaching and providing training to the delivery team and supply chain.
  • Conduct site briefings and prestart check-ins prior to the commencement of work.
  • Monitor the quality of materials via inspections, including at source.
  • Check works during progress and upon completion to ensure construction aligns with specifications and relevant designs.
  • Ensure inspections and tests are carried out according to inspection and test plans and Safe System of Work protocols, producing necessary documentation promptly.
  • Produce Non-conformance Reports when works do not comply with requirements, take preventive actions, close reports timely, and offer advice where applicable.
  • Support resolution of material issues and offer advice when needed.
  • Assist in compiling project record packages, coordinating the closure of NCRs continuously.
  • Raise and capture material quality-focused Lessons Learned, communicating them to Quality and Delivery Teams including the Supply Chain.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience related to material engineering with a focus on earthworks and highways
  • Relevant material engineering experience on civil engineering projects, preferably major highway schemes
  • Knowledge of highways specifications and standards relevant to material testing.
  • Experience in both on-site and laboratory-based material testing, including UKAS accreditation.
  • Relevant CSCS Card and Highways Passport.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, PowerBI).
