Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HV Primary Plant Engineer, working on National Grid projects. This is a contract position operating outside IR35, with a blend of remote working and on-site presence at our office in Stafford. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage (HV) substation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design of HV primary plant systems for National Grid substation projects.
- Develop and review detailed engineering drawings and specifications for HV primary plant equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and other high-voltage apparatus.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including civil, electrical, and protection engineers, to ensure seamless integration of primary plant systems.
- Conduct technical assessments, feasibility studies, and risk analyses to support project planning and decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with National Grid standards, industry regulations, and best practices in all design and engineering activities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams during construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure project requirements are met and delivered on time and within budget.
- Prepare and present technical reports, documentation, and project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay current with advancements in HV technology and industry trends to continually improve design and engineering practices.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in HV primary plant engineering, specifically in substation design for National Grid projects.
- In-depth knowledge of HV substation equipment, design principles, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in using design software and tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety regulations and practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid working model with a combination of remote work and on-site presence in Stafford.
- Occasional travel to project sites and client meetings as required.
